At present in Kazakh terminology, whichever scientific direction we choose, a wide range of variant terminological series are used. One of which are historical terms. The main requirement of terminological science is the unification of terms, bringing them to uniformity. Without observing this rule, neither the author of scientific research, nor its reader, nor the author of the textbook of this field of science, nor the learner will not be able to offer and perceive the information at the appropriate level. This problem, which exists in Kazakh terminology, dictates the relevance of our study.

The article attempts to unify some terms used in research papers and textbooks, in particular, such chronological terms as zaman, dauir, saty, kezen (era, epoch, stage, period). In the process of writing the article the scientific works of domestic and foreign authors on these terminological units were studied. The authors of the article on the basis of specific historical data and linguistic arguments present their vision of the problem. Highlighting the distinctive features of the terminological meaning of scientific definitions of zaman, dauir, saty, kezen (era, epoch, stage, period), they offer their own definitions of these terms.
