This article examines the organization of the education system in the Kazakh region from the
perspective of source analysis, drawing on materials published in the second half of the 19th century in
official periodicals – «Kirgizskaya Stepnaya Gazeta» (Kazakh Steppe Newspaper) and ―Turkestanskie
Vedomosti‖ (Turkestan Gazette). These publications contain a wealth of information regarding the
schooling and education of Kazakh children during that period.
This section describes the opening of schools, the state of the educational process and material
technical infrastructure, and the specific organizational aspects of instruction. However, given that the
Tsarist government‘s colonial policy prevailed during this period - with education serving as a primary
instrument of spiritual colonization - a critical analysis of the sources found in publications from that era
is essential when examining this subject. Data on Kazakhstan‘s education sector found in official
publications serve as an extremely valuable and indispensable source of extensive statistical and
structural information. However, to ensure the objectivity of this information, it is necessary to cross
reference it with archival documents from the same period, personal recollections, and materials from
the unofficial nationalist press—such as the publications ―Qazaq‖ and ―Ayqap‖.
This article presents an analysis of the information contained in official publications from the
second half of the 19th century regarding education, the organization of the school system, the
capabilities of the educational sector, and the orientation and methodology of instruction. Although the
data presented in these publications serve as primary sources for studying the educational landscape of
that era, it is also necessary to assess their objectivity and the specific circumstances of their
preservation.
