During the uprising of 1916, Turgai rebels elected Abdygapar Zhanbosynov, a descendant of Uzun Kipchak Tleuli batyr Abdrakhmanuly, khan. Soviet historiography, adapting to ideological attitudes, deliberately suppressed this historical fact by calling Abdygapar Zhanbosynov "Khan of Alashorda." The authors of the article, based on newly identified archival documents, consider historical publications of the Soviet period from a new perspective.
At the same time, this issue is not limited to the assessment of A. Zhanbosynov's activities. Khan's descendants and relatives were also subjected to political persecution. In general, this topic needs deep reflection.
The article provides a historiographical analysis of A. Zhanbosynuly's leadership activities in the Turgai uprising based on published scientific papers and memorabilia from the country's independence to the present. In accordance with this, the national liberation uprising of 1916 in the Turgai region is evaluated by new theoretical and methodological means, that is, as a feature of the uprising in Turgai, it is emphasized that it was organized, had a massive character, was the longest, most persistent and subordinated to a single center.
