The article examines the history of the formation and development of methods of teaching history in schools of the Soviet country from 1917 to 1980. The structure of historical education in the USSR of the above period consists of theoretical, educational, methodological, personnel and material – technical complexes aimed at transferring knowledge about past epochs. The methodology of historical education reflects the political system and ideology of Soviet society in significant periods, the nature of the political regime and the structure of state power, in a more complex state.
Research of named problems is possible only on the basis of an interdisciplinary search. To process the history of the formation of the methodology of teaching history, special methods of cognition of the past are important: historical-comparative, historical-system. From the point of view of methods of teaching history we see the teaching of history and historical education in the interests of man, society, state.
