The article discusses the historical images of cultural memory in Kazakhstan, the formation of their features and emotional characteristics as one of the most pressing problems of modern society. Theauthorsdrawattention to the fact that the formation of historical ideas and images begins in early childhood, then they are consolidated during the period of school education, however, in subsequent years, during the generational change, they can be changed under the influence of new information, newly discovered historical documents that open previously little-known history pages. A comparative analysis of upbringing practices in the Soviet school and in modern conditions is given in order to compare the main goals in the formation of images of historical memory and their emotional characteristics. In particular, archival materials are presented that reflect the commemoration of memorable practices of the 40-50s of the 20th century and at the beginning of the 21st century in history lessons and in extracurricular work to form historical ideas. The main content of the article is illustrated on the materials of the Almaty region of Kazakhstan.
