Published May 2021
Abstract

The article reveals sacredness from a historical and ethnographic point of view Kazakh female name Zere, as part of the celebration of the 175th anniversary of AbaiKunanbaeva. The author puts forward four versions of the etymology of the meaning of this name. First, this is the generally accepted interpretation of the word as «gold», i.e. a noble man, dear as metal gold. This version comes from the ancient Persian word «zer»– gold (hence the jeweler –zerger!). In the second version, the author is based on archival and historical sources shows that in traditional Kazakh society, girls and young daughters-in-law for special events among many others jewelry, they also wore a gold ring on their nose, which called «zere». The third version –zere– wedding headdress the bride, worn under the saukele. The fourth option corresponds to the name of the ring from which the military defensive clothes - chain mail. Thus, the author puts forward a version that the name Zere was awarded to Abai's grandmother Tokbala specially for meritorious services, as a person who contributed to the unification of a family, clan, tribe – as ring (rather gold), fastening chain mail into a single whole!
