The article discusses the educational activities of S. Kozhanov in the development of education in the republic. At the 20 years of the twentieth century S. Kozhanov was appointed People's Commissar of Internal Affairs of the Turkestan ASSR and the People's Commissar of Education of the Turkestan ASSR. During its activity the People's Commissariat of Education undertook a comprehensive work on the radical reorganization of public education, providing teachers with teaching staff and strengthen the material base of schools and other children's institutions. Despite the obstacles and shortcomings that arise on the way to creating a school, S. Kozhanov did a great job in the field of education in the republic and achieved results. In the field of education, he advocated teaching in the language of the local population. He was the organizer of the creation and publication of the “Ak Zhol” newspaper and the first editor of this newspaper. He made a significant contribution to the development of the press in the republic.
