The article discusses the process of formation of historical knowledge of the young generation of Kazakhstan, gives its characteristics. The authors analyze changes in the existing education system, disclose certain aspects of the crisis in humanitarian education. A characteristic feature of historical education is its close connection with ideology. The article describes the main paths of historical knowledge that forms the national values of young people which represented in state programs. The role and place of historical knowledge in the education of patriotism among young people is highlighted.
