The article comprehensively examines the role of modern digital technologies in studying the social profile of the victims of political repression in the city of Almaty during 1937–1938. The main purpose of the study is to systematize data on the victims of repression and to carry out digital modeling of their social panorama through the use of Digital History tools. The author proposes methodological algorithms for formalizing archival documents, creating a relational database, and constructing a “topography of terror” through GIS technologies. As a result of the study, an interdisciplinary innovative model for researching the history of political repression has been scientifically substantiated. In the 1930s, the city of Almaty was the main center of concentration of the Kazakh intelligentsia. Therefore, it is of great importance to examine the specific features of repression in this region in a digital format.

In the course of the research, a set of documents from the Archive of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Central State Archive of the city of Almaty, and the special archives of the National Security Committee and the Prosecutor’s Office was used. In particular, the materials of fonds No. 141, No. 708, and No. 1146, as well as the data from the Book of Mourning, served as the main sources. In addition, the 50-volume collection of documents published in 2021–2023 substantially enriched the source base. The article also analyzes the theoretical and practical foundations for creating digital platforms for preserving historical memory, comparing them with international experience. At the same time, the article provides a digital analysis of the investigative methods of the NKVD bodies and the political background of the activities of the “troikas,” exposing their unlawful actions. This constitutes an important instrument for restoring historical justice. Thus, the study substantiates the problem through digital systematization within national historiography.
