The aim of this research is to examine the role of national identity and historical awareness through the works of historian Talas Omarbekov. After gaining independence, the Republic of Kazakhstan set new goals for the humanities, particularly liberating historical science from the dominance of party-class and communist ideologies. Emphasis was placed on developing a civilizational approach to history that is based on the foundations of the traditional nomadic society and national identity. From the 1980s onward, Talas Omarbekov embarked on a significant research path rooted in national pragmatism, initiating the reconstruction of objective national history. In the post-Soviet context, he made great efforts to interpret history from the perspective of national interests. This research aims to explore the role of historical continuity in shaping national consciousness and understanding through the example of this prominent historian. 

One of the main objectives is to systematize and evaluate the scientific contributions of Talas Omarbekov, a distinguished and respected historian, to the essential issues of historical consciousness and national ideals in Kazakhstan’s historiography. 

The relevance of this research lies in its contribution to highlighting the historical significance of Kazakh statehood and ethnic identity through the lens of national consciousness and the idea of independence. Overcoming the obscurity of the Soviet period and building an independent national historiography represents a crucial milestone. Therefore, Talas Omarbekov’s approach to defining the national-cultural code within the context of civilizational, humanistic, cultic, and tolerant values plays a vital role in the modernization of society and must be properly appreciated. 

 As a result of the research, several aspects of the historical consciousness in line with national interests were identified, and a historical analysis of the concept of national identity was conducted.
