Abstract

The aim of the article is to publish new materials from the territory of Stone Age monuments obtained during exploration work in August 2024 in the Aral district of the Kyzylorda region. Six sites were subjected to monitoring: Kosaman site, Saksaulskaya (Kumsai) 1 site, Saksaulskaya (Kumsai) 3 site, Saksaulskaya (Kumsai) 4 site, Saksaulskaya (Kumsai) 5 site, Shizhaga 2. Five new archaeological sites were identified: Sazdy 1, Sazdy 2, Sazdy 3, Sazdy 4, Sazdy 5. The exploration route was through the villages of Kazaly, Shizhaga, Sazdy to Saksaulskaya station via the city of Aralsk. During the work, collection of artifacts and mapping of their occurrence sites were carried out, pits were laid in places of the largest accumulation. All obtained lithic and ceramic material was analyzed using typological and technological methods. The surveyed and identified sites and locations date back to the Neolithic, Eneolithic, Bronze and Early Iron Ages. The results of the study showed that the Neolithic and Eneolithic collections of this region mainly used two types of raw materials: for Neolithic artifacts - flints of various color ranges and gray translucent quartzite; for Eneolithic complexes - only gray coarse-grained quartzite of low quality. Typologically, the tools of Neolithic complexes is represented mainly by knife-shaped blades with and without retouching, scrapers, side-scrapers, single examples of notched-dentate tools, points, arrowheads, etc. Among the artifacts in the Eneolithic complexes, a predominant number of flakes and products on them are noted - scrapers, side-scrapers, notched-dentate tools, chisels, bifacial tools. At the sites where artifacts of the Bronze Age and Early Iron Age are found, only fragments of ceramics are noted. Ceramic fragments related to the Bronze Age are represented by vessels of jar and pot shapes, made by hand molding, they often have a comb ornament with geometric patterns. Fragments of the Early Iron Age belong to vessels of typologically similar shapes, however, they do not have an ornament, they were also made by hand molding. The data presented in the article characterize new locations of habitation of the ancient population and significantly supplement the existing materials on the Neolithic-Eneolithic of the Northern Aral Sea region; an attempt was made to clarify the chronology using techno-typological analysis, thanks to which collections of products characteristics of each of the eras were described.
