The article is dedicated to the source-based analysis of archival materials concerning the life and political activities of Uali Khan, a prominent figure of the Kazakh ruling elite in the mid-18th to early 19th centuries. The primary objective of the research is to systematize sources related to the foreign and domestic policies of Uali Khan, as well as to assess their reliability and significance for understanding the political situation of that time. Specifically, the focus is placed on archival documents stored in the archives of the Russian Federation, which expands the source base for analysis. The research is based on the study of archival documents from the IAO, GAORO, RGADA, RGVIA, RGIA, and AVPRI. After selecting written sources based on their informational content and reliability, using the principle of typological classification, two main groups of sources were identified: the group of administrative documents and the group of personal sources.
The archival materials are divided into several types, allowing for the consideration of various aspects of historical processes and the systematization of documents according to their type, purpose, and content. Within the framework of the source-based analysis of documents directly related to the activities of Uali Khan, the following key types of sources are identified: reports, orders, petitions, memoranda, and personal letters. These types of sources form the basis for analyzing the foreign and domestic policies of Uali Khan and provide valuable information for a deeper understanding of his diplomatic and administrative activities, as well as his influence on the political processes in Central Asia at the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th centuries.
