Abstract

Chokan Valikhanov was an outstanding Kazakh scholar, ethnographer, and historian whose rich intellectual legacy continues to play a crucial role in the study of Central Asian history. His works serve not only as valuable historical sources but also as fundamental research that enables a reevaluation of various aspects of Kyrgyz-Kazakh relations in the 17th-18th centuries.

This article provides a comprehensive analysis of Valikhanov’s records on Kyrgyz-Kazakh interactions, based on newly discovered documentary sources, oral traditions, and contemporary scholarly research. The study clarifies and supplements certain chronological dates previously considered indisputable and offers new interpretations of debated issues not only in the history of Kyrgyz-Kazakh relations but also in the broader context of Central Asian history.

Special attention is given to the impact of political and socio-economic factors on the development of Kyrgyz-Kazakh relations. The mechanisms of interaction between the two peoples, as well as their cultural and trade connections, are thoroughly examined. By adopting a multidisciplinary approach, this research uncovers new perspectives on historical processes and provides a deeper understanding of the role played by the Kyrgyz and Kazakhs in regional politics during this period.

Thus, this study contributes significantly to the exploration of Central Asian history, shedding light on previously unknown aspects and expanding the scholarly understanding of Kyrgyz-Kazakh relations in the 17th-18th centuries.
