Abstract

This article analyzes the concept of a "free system of power" in the political worldview of Bolingbroke. Henry St. John Bolingbroke (1678-1751) was one of the first to clearly formulate the main points of the concept of the balance of forces. This concept of "European balance" has been dominant in explaining the main events in the history of relations between European States for many centuries. In 1735, one of the main works of Henry Bolingbroke was written - "Letters on the study and use of history". Of particular relevance to us is the VI letter, in Which G. Bolingbroke refers to the period - "from the beginning of which the new history is especially valuable for the service of the country" ‒ the end of the fifteenth century. This chronological boundary is presented to the author as a kind of border not just for the history of England, but for the entire continent as a whole
