The article examines the role of Ayatollah Khomeini in shaping the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran. After the victory of the Islamic revolution, Iran's foreign policy changed radically. Its formation was carried out on the basis of the religious and political teachings of the leader of the Islamic revolution, Ayatollah Khomeini. Khomeini's foreign policy program was formed during the years of struggle against the monarchical regime.
The formation of the foreign policy direction of the Islamic regime is carried out on the basis of the Islamic factor and the ideas of freedom and independence. Based on the policy of “Neither West, nor East, only Islam,” declared after the victory of the Islamic Revolution, the Islamic regime is moving towards sovereignty and complete independence. Foreign policy principles based on the Islamic religion and national interests were included in the constitution of the Republic of Iran. Despite the fact that the system of international relations has undergone changes after the “Khomeini period,” his teachings have not lost their significance in the foreign policy of modern Iran.
