Drawing on scientific literature, survey and interview data collected from archivists of Kazakhstan, the paper considers what archivists should look like in the age of digital transformation. Despite the growing impact of information technology on human life in the information age, there is insufficient research on the state of archives and archivists in the context of digital transformation in the country. It is still unclear how computer technology affects the work of archivists. In this regard, this study is designed to bridge this gap and make a significant contribution to the development of domestic archiving. The results of the study confirm the positive impact of computer technology on the work of archivists, yet this issue should be considered critically. Today, long-term (longitudinal) research should be conducted to determine what changes computer technology has brought, in addition to achieving labor efficiency and time savings. Such changes should create great opportunities for archivists to perform their professional duties.
