Clothing is a cultural attribute that immediately catches the eye with its originality, worldview, and the form of adaptation of each ethnic group to the environment. The article shows the features of the national clothes of the Kazakh and Turkish ethnic groups, their moral, taste and social functions in society are considered, and an attempt is made to determine the role of clothing in the determination of social relations, especially paying attention to the function associated with social differentiation. Although the origin of the Kazakh and Turkish peoples is the same, the difference in the way of life of the two ethnic groups is clearly visible in their clothes. Describing these differences and determining the reasons for their occurrence, the authors of the article try to assess the impact and results of the Europeanization trend that has been manifesting since the 18th century.While the Ottoman Empire carried out several reforms as an independent state, the Kazakh country, being under Russian rule, was involved in the process of Europeanization through the Russian state. The content and course of the reforms carried out by the Ottoman Turks in the 18th-19th centuries are differentiated, the meaning and direction of the changes caused by them are discussed. Changes in the clothes of the Kazakh and Turkic ethnic groups mainly concerned the clothes of the military and official employees in the state. When collecting data related to the topic, a review was made of the work of scientists who conducted research on the Kazakh and Turkish clothing reforms. When describing the Turkish national costume before the reforms, the historical course of these reforms, the factors and manifestations that led to the transformation are considered.The article analyzes the meaning and content of each change in clothing, developmental features and psychological mechanisms of their acceptance by the local population during the period of involvement of two fraternal countries, settled and another nomadic, in the process of Europeanization in connection with capitalist relations and technology. The changes of the Turkish people after each reform are discussed, the confrontation with national clothes is emphasized. In the Ottoman Empire, from the beginning of the reign of Mahmut II to the period of the republic, changes in European-style clothing and its impact on people are determined. And it was determined that the direction of the Europeanization of changes was reflected only in the uniforms of military personnel and officials who are at the head of the power of the Kazakh people.
