NEW MONUMENT OF MEGALITHIC ARCHITECTURE IN THE MOUNTAINS OF KOKSHETAU

Published December 2022
Abstract

This article was carried out within the framework of the project on the topic AP13068420 «Monuments of megalithic architecture of the Bronze Age in Burabay».
The article provides information about a new type of archaeological monument discovered and explored on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Burabay district of the Akmola region. The monument can be classified as a megalithic structure. It is a complex consisting of several architectural elements: two long walls made of large processed granite boulders, an artificial terrace with a leveled platform and a long ramp, an external platform, stone stelae, mine workings, and a workshop. The main objects are two walls that fit into the landscape. For the construction of walls, granite rock outcrops were used, which were processed on-site. On one of the large boulders at the foot of the masonry, under the platform of the terrace, there is a bas-relief in the form of a bull, and somewhat to the east in the wall, there is a passage laid out in the form of steps and going from the outer area to the central platform of the terrace. Judging by the degree of destruction of the masonry of the walls, the existing analogies of planigraphy, construction, and architectural techniques, the amount of labor, the presence of a nearby settlement, and the large burial ground of the Bronze Age, the monument can be dated to this period.
