Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the peculiarities of the funerary rituals documented in the early Muslim mausoleums of the 14th century, widespread in the Ulus of Jochi Khan. During the Middle Ages, in the expanses of
Saryarka, and specifically in the valleys of the Nura, Ishim, Sarysu, Kengir and Turgai steppe rivers, the diffusion of the original Islam took place. Unfortunately, there are no direct written sources revealing the spiritual culture of the Saryarka steppe population in this period. Therefore, the main source is represented by the archaeological material, which can be compared with the information coming from the medieval history of the adjacent territories. According to the archaeological data, in the 13th - 14th centuries, there was a noticeable change in the architectural and urbanistic appearance of the cities, where clearly can be noticed and traced the traditions of the Muslim architecture (mosques, madrasahs, baths), the construction of new cult-memorial complexes (mausoleums) and the diffusion of the funerary rite according to Muslim canons.
