Abstract

The article provides a historiographical analysis of a number of works related to the history of creation, the activities of the Central State Archive of Film and Photographic Documents and Sound Recordings of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as the importance and specificity of audiovisual documents.

The purpose and objectives of the research are to conduct a historiographical analysis of works on the archive of film and photographic documents and sound recordings, to determine the degree of study of archival business in Kazakhstan and to identify issues that have yet to be studied.

The Republic of Kazakhstan is making great progress in the field of archival business. Currently, the republic is beginning to form its own scientific base for studying the problems of archival science, individual historical periods in which the archival industry was formed, and archival institutions. As a result, the field of fundamental science is becoming increasingly important as a subject of archival science.

The article largely defines the history of the archive and its documents, using as a historiographical source published monographs, scientific articles, dissertations on the history of the Central State Archive of Film and Photographic Documents and Sound Recordings of the Republic of Kazakhstan.  Conclusions were drawn and recommendations were made on the need for a historiographical study of document collections, their accumulation, storage, complete transfer to a digital system and other archives.
