The author attempts to enter into the discussion about the activity of Pius XII in the time of the Second World War, his relationship to fascism, Hitler’s allies and enemies and the Holocaust. The article documents the testimonies of eyewitnesses and assessments of previous research on the biography and personality of Pope Pacelli who took a stance of official neutrality and favoured offering clandestine help to victims over public condemnation the cruelties of the Holocaust.
