Over 50 years of research into political ideology has left scholars with a contested paradigm. There are two opposing opinions regarding the influence of state ideology on the mass public. One side claims that the mass public is not ideological. The other side argues that ideological thinking is inherent in society. The importance of ideology is emphasized in a wide range of empirical studies, as part of a direct impact on public policy. The state ideology largely influences both the political elite and state policy. In this study, the author tried to analyze, on the basis of reliable data, the impact of ideology on society by summarizing the main arguments and criticisms of modern studies of ideology.
