The article reveals the concept of "demographic security", examines the place of demographic security in the overall system of national security; provides a historiographical overview of the problem under study based on domestic and foreign sources; identifies objective factors that actualize the regional approach to the study of this problem.
The peculiarity of demographic security is that on the one hand, its provision depends on the state of security in other areas - economic, environmental, food, social, cultural and others. On the other hand, the decline in demographic security is a threat to the sustainable development of all important social institutions. In this regard, the need to develop and implement an indicative system for assessing the level of demographic security in Kazakhstan is justified. This assessment system has universal application, since demographic processes have a direct impact on all spheres of society's life.
