The article examines the history of mass riots of prisoners of the Mountain camp of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR on May 24 - July 7, 1953. After the arrival of prisoners from the Sand camp of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, mostly convicted of insurgent activities in the regions of Western Ukraine and the Baltic republics. By May of this year, an anti-Soviet organization was put together in a Mountain camp.
In Gorlageza, the violation of the camp regime by the imprisoned soldiers used firearms against them, as a result of which several people were wounded and killed in the camp. These and other shortcomings in the camp caused the uprising of prisoners and the summoning of a commission from Moscow to solve the problems that arose.
The work carried out by the camp management and representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in resolving the conflict with prisoners did not yield positive results. As a result of the use of necessary measures by the punitive authorities, the uprising of prisoners in the camp was eliminated.
The article is written on the basis of archival sources, regulatory legal acts and other documents that do not have information about the classification of secrecy.
